What is Physical Therapy?
There is the old kind of physical therapy, and then there is the Physical Therapy of Muscle IQ. The most important part of physical therapy is the hands-on time with the therapist. The second most important part is the exercises. Everything else is tertiary. You want physical therapy to be more than just lying on a table getting moist heat, electric stim, and ultrasound. The research shows the importance of skilled manual therapy, and the therapist using their hands is most effective. At Muscle IQ you will get hands-on care every visit. The Doctors of Physical Therapy at Muscle IQ are trained in the Fascial Distortion Model and they both are also Muscle Inhibition Practitioners. The best hands on care by a physical therapist should include both muscle testing and manual therapy. The time with the therapist is always part evaluation time and part treatment time in order to produce the most successful outcome. Physical therapy is skilled care. You will see a change with the treatment; increased motion, increased strength, and/or less pain with a movement or activity.
Just as much care should be put into the exercises you do during physical therapy. Muscle strength is the only thing that protects you. Physical Therapy is essential in re-conditioning weak muscles. Exercises should focus on strengthening muscles that have been tested and found weak. Exercise should not be painful. Painful exercise makes muscles weaker. It takes a skilled physical therapist to help you identify which are the best exercises for you. A highly skilled physical therapist will identify deep muscle weakness. The deep muscle stabilizers are the key to healthy living. Your exercises performed at Muscle IQ will include exercises for the deep stabilizers of the back, neck, hips, and/or shoulders.
